Chelsea Schmidt is a Toronto based emerging artist who specializes in sculpture and installation with experience working with many fine-art mediums including drawing and painting, film photography, video, textiles, metal, wood, and bronze casting.

"Most of my inspiration comes from nature, I like to closely observe and sketch natural elements both from real life and from photographs that I take."

Chelsea also takes much inspiration from the figure, both of humans and animals.

"When I draw figures, both human and animal, I like to concentrate on creating tension within the work. I find that by manipulating composition, movement, colour and wheight I can pinpoint the most intrigueing form."

Emotion and communication play very important roles in Chelsea's art practice.

"When I draw and paint I'm not just trying to create a representation of something, I'm trying to communicate the emotions that I feel looking at an object or imagining a scenario to the viewer. I want the viewer to be able to feel my perspective on the subject matter."
